About Neale Gay
Neale Gay is an experienced educator and academic leader who has spent more than two decades teaching, counseling and advocating for students. He joined The Academy at Charlemont in 2012 as a humanities teacher, college counselor, and theater director, drawn to the holistic approach of the school to education and its commitment to social justice, the arts and music. Over time, he took on expanded leadership responsibilities and, since 2018, has served as Co-Head of School for Academics, guiding the academic vision of the school while remaining closely connected to students and faculty.
Neale began his career as a public school history and English teacher while completing a Master of Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, building a strong foundation in both classroom instruction and student support. He also holds a degree in Classics from UMass, which informs his work in the humanities and his appreciation for rigorous, thoughtful scholarship. An avid reader and record collector, he lives with his family, cats and dog in Greenfield, Massachusetts, bringing a grounded, community-oriented perspective to his work with students and colleagues.
