About Daniel Schuman

Daniel Schuman has been a Principal Strategy Consultant and Senior College Admissions Counselor at PathIvy since October 2024, bringing decades of experience in college admissions counseling, test preparation, and athletic coaching. With 28 years at Kaplan Test Prep since 1997, he has assisted students in college application selection, navigating the admissions process, athletic recruitment, filling out UC and Common Applications, selecting essay topics, and editing college application essays. Named Teacher of the Year for Kaplan Southeast Region in 2000 and Kaplan Anywhere Teacher of the Week in 2011, Daniel has taught classes of 5-300 students, tutored for GRE, GMAT, LSAT, ACT, SAT, AP Biology, and AP Psychology, and worked with partnership programs including Denver Public Schools and Naviance.

As Principal Strategy Consultant at Crimson Education from December 2023 to November 2024, Daniel provided overarching admissions strategies through individualized roadmaps, collaborated with academic tutors and application consultants, and maintained expert knowledge of high school curricula, extracurriculars, summer programs, and standardized testing to guide students toward attainable school goals. He has extensive teaching experience across elite institutions, including IB DP Biology at DCI - District of Columbia International School, where he led teams to PCSAA Cross Country Championships, The Buckley School, Geffen Academy at UCLA, and St. Monica Catholic High School, plus a PhD from UC San Diego with research on stereotype susceptibility and juvenile justice mental health treatment.

Daniel serves as Assistant Track and XC Coach at Johns Hopkins University and Board Member at Bridges Public Charter School, while maintaining his Duke University alumni interviewer role since 2002. His comprehensive background spans lecturing 500-student psychology classes at UC San Diego, international teaching at Kaplan Thailand and TASIS England, and volunteer college counseling with ScholarMatch for low-income first-generation students, positioning him uniquely to guide diverse student athletes and applicants through competitive admissions processes.
