The lost temple

Hello, my name is Theona. I am 9 years old and I am in fourth grade. I enjoy doing many fun activities like gymnastics, art, coding, and playing games. I love learning new things and being creative. Today, I am excited to share my micro project called “The Lost Tumble.” I worked very hard on this project and put in a lot of effort. It is a game where players complete challenges to find a hidden treasure. In the first challenge, you have to guess how many punches are needed to open a stove door using different buttons.

Birthday party light

My name is Theona. I am 9 years old and I am in fourth grade. I love doing coding, gymnastics, art, and many other creative activities. Today, I am very excited to show you my micro project called “Birthday Party Lights.” I worked really hard on this project and had a lot of fun making it. This project turns the micro into a mini birthday celebration. First, it plays the Happy Birthday song. Then, it shows a blinking smiley face on the screen. It is a fun and colorful project that brings joy and celebration.

Magic wand

I presented my Micro:bit game called Magic Wand. In my game, players press button A or B to cast a spell. The wand shows a countdown using a loop, and then a surprise message appears. If you press button A, you turn into a frog and lose. If you press button B, a bad person turns into a fish and you win. I used animations, loops, and messages to make my game magical and fun.

About the Podcast

Theona Garcenila Codes a Magic Wand Game

Theona, a brilliant 4th-grade coder who engineered a whimsical, standalone game called "Magic Wand" entirely on her own!

Theona shares how she translated a flood of creative, funny, and silly ideas into a functional, interactive game using the BBC micro:bit.

How the Magic Wand Game Works:

The Dramatic Intro: The game kicks off with an immersive horizontal scrolling text countdown from 3, 2, 1 to build suspense.

The Gameplay Loop: The micro:bit displays the title "Magic Wand," prompt-gliding across the LED screen, commanding the player to choose their fate.

The Magic Spells: Players press Button A or Button B to cast random magic spells, resulting in randomized winning or losing animations!

Theona's Master Advice for Kid Coders:

"Keep on trying. Don't be scared. Listen to your teacher, focus on your work, and most importantly: love what you're doing!"
