Des Moines, Iowa capital and largest city, has a population of over 215,000. There are many neighborhoods that are ideal for families and cities. There are a lot of public and private elementary schools in the city that work hard to make sure all of their students are happy, doing well in school, and feel like they belong. The Des Moines Public Schools put a lot of stress on things like reading, writing, math, the arts, and other things kids do outside of school. Schools that have magnet programs and get involved in the community do better. Some have won state or national awards for fairness and performance.
