The high school system in Iowa is growing faster, with a 4-year graduation rate of 88.3 percent, and 78.5 percent of high school buildings receiving acceptable or higher ratings on the state accountability scorecard. All subject areas have advanced significantly, especially in the sciences, and the chronic absenteeism rate is at an all-time low of 15.8 percent. Students also have many new opportunities for work-based learning and concurrent enrollment to prepare for college.
