Hilo Intermediate School had a longtime faculty member inducted into the National Teachers Hall of Fame in late 2025. Dr. Pascale Creek Pinner, a science teacher with more than 37 years of service at the school, received the honor. Her induction marks her as the first female teacher from Hawaii and the first public school teacher from Hawaii Island.
