The SC public high school system consists of over 250 schools across 81 separate districts and is dedicated to providing students with opportunities to prepare for both college and careers. 75% of high schools have received a composite score of "good" or better. Horry County has reported on-time graduation rates as high as 89.6% and has achieved other impressive metrics, including an average composite score of 99.4% at its top-performing high school, the HCS Scholars Academy. There are continued efforts by state and local agencies to improve academic performance among Black and Hispanic students through targeted interventions, allowing the best high schools in South Carolina to demonstrate measurable improvements in academic performance and preparation for both college and careers.
