As of 2025, South Carolina has made continuous improvements regarding the quality of the education provided to students in its middle schools, making it home to some of the best middle schools in South Carolina. South Carolina currently has 751 middle schools, and nearly 40% of those schools have received a “Good” rating or better for their improvement in student performance (significantly improved compared to the prior year). South Carolina spends approximately $16,722 per student enrolled in middle schools. In addition, South Carolina has an average student-teacher ratio of 15:1. Advanced value-added growth models and the growing number of charter schools serving more than 22,000 students, along with SC school report cards that convey clear and available data, are all components of the data-driven, student-centred educational model utilized throughout middle schools in South Carolina.
