Major General William R. Shafter Elementary School is located at 2 Fort Shafter, Honolulu, on the Fort Shafter military base. The school serves grades PK–6 and enrolls about 390 students. The student–teacher ratio is about 16:1. Approximately 72% of students are proficient in math, and about 67% are proficient in reading. The student body is roughly 52% male and 48% female. The???????????????? school atmosphere is warm and very much a community; people say staff and families are the key players in the setting, which is diverse, mutually supportive, and mainly a military community engagement with shared goals. Most of the houses around the Honolulu area that are the local real estate close to Fort Shafter and downtown Honolulu usually cost between $700,000 and $1,200,000 approximately. Shafter Elementary School is recognized for its excellent proficiency outcomes and the active involvement of families, making it one of the top elementary schools in Hawaii.
