With a population of over 540,000, the city blends history, arts, and outdoor living. The Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) serves around 42,000 students across 80+ schools. Districtwide elementary proficiency averages remain low, with roughly 27% in reading and 22% in math.
However, schools like Fruchthendler Elementary exceed 70% in both areas, showcasing strong instructional models. Graduation rates in TUSD are improving, now nearing 86%, supported by AVID programs, early literacy efforts, and bilingual education.
