Tennessee middle school system is recognized nationally for its best middle schools in Tennessee practices in improvement through data utilization. Tennessee has approximately 1339 middle schools in total and has been able to demonstrate academic growth. 8th-grade students in Tennessee are 31% proficient in mathematics compared to other states in the United States.
