LaMotte 6-8 is located at 841 Bear Canyon Road just east of Bozeman, MT 59715, tucked into a rural part of Gallatin County where the natural landscape becomes part of daily learning. The school serves students in grades 6–8. Total enrollment is very small, about 14 students, with a student–teacher ratio of roughly 5:1, allowing teachers to tailor instruction closely to each learner’s needs. About 70% have proficiency in both math and reading. Female students constitute about 50% of the student body, while male students make up about 50%. LaMotte uses place-based learning, outdoor exploration, and environmental connections to build confidence and curiosity in core subjects and real-world contexts. The Bozeman housing market typically features median property values between approximately $550,000 and $900,000 or higher, providing families with diverse residential options near trails, cultural institutions, and outdoor recreational activities that characterize this dynamic college-town area. Parents frequently emphasize that the school's limited size cultivates profound relationships, facilitates earlier development of independence, and promotes inter-age collaboration, thereby enhancing a sense of belonging and academic advancement. LaMotte 6-8, distinguished by its unique model and robust local reputation, is acknowledged as one of the best middle schools in Montana.
