In Mississippi public school system, there are more than five hundred middle grades, a ratio of fifteen students for every teacher in a classroom, and they have earned the sixteenth spot on the United States Middle Grades Education Rankings list for 2025 from the Annie E. Casey Foundation for Academic Excellence and Accountability. Students attending Mississippi public schools score well on national standardized tests annually due to the implementation of the Literacy-Based Promotion Act as well as the overall performance measures provided by the state with its A–F grading system for public schools, with over eighty percent (80%) receiving a grade of "C" or better. The confluence of all these factors has resulted in Mississippi being home to some of the finest public middle-grade schools in the state, which focus on long-term student achievement and success through various educational practices and professional support systems.
