As of 2025, the middle school model for education in Michigan continues to grow. There are 2314 middle schools providing education to the (K-12) elementary, middle, and high schools in Michigan, serving an estimated population of over 1.42 million students. Current data from the state shows that students in Michigan have made consistent academic gains in 14 of the 20 state assessments. In addition, some of the leading middle schools in Michigan report math success rates greater than 70% and reading rates greater than 80%. In addition to these measures of educational accomplishments, Michigan also has a number of unique features, including STEAM Academy programs, magnet school programs, early-middle college pathways programs, and a statewide attendance rate of nearly 91%. These features combine to enhance the quality and innovative methods used to educate students in Michigan.
