The state of Louisiana has made significant educational improvements. In 2025, 44% of Louisiana elementary and middle schools received an A or B rating, while the total K-12 student population is now over 680,000. Louisiana School Performance Score increased to 80.9, up from 80.8 the previous year. Louisiana LEAP tests for middle school students indicate that 35% of students who took the tests achieved Mastery or higher. Students also saw an increase in their math and science scores. Because of the many powerful literacy initiatives, the availability of magnet programs focused on STEM, and several nationally ranked middle school campuses, this is home to outstanding public middle schools in Louisiana that rank among the most improved in the United States.
