About Emerson Alternative Ed. (Hs)

Emerson Alternative Ed. (HS) is a public high school in Oklahoma City that offers an alternative education to about 230 students in grades 9–12. It is one of ten high schools in the Oklahoma City Public Schools district and is known as one of the best because of its flexible and helpful teaching methods. The school has about 13 students for every teacher, which lets teachers give each student more individual attention. The student body is diverse, with 81% of students coming from minority backgrounds. A large number of students are also from low-income families. Emerson Alternative Ed. (HS) says that 1% of its students are good at math and 1% are good at reading. Supported by district funding of approximately $11,940 per pupil, the center provides a non-traditional school environment focused on credit recovery and graduation persistence. Its main strengths are its dedicated teachers and its promise to make it easier for students who do better in a smaller, more flexible academic setting to get their high school diploma.
