Springfield, Missouri, the "Queen City of the Ozarks," is a cultural and business center for the region with a population of about 171,000 in 2026. The Springfield Public Schools (SPS) district, which is the largest in Missouri, serves most of the city. It includes more than 50 public schools and well-known private schools. Through "choice programs," the school system puts a lot of emphasis on academic innovation in STEM, environmental science, and the performing arts. Springfield is a great place for families because it has a low cost of living and a lot of schools, including Missouri State University, which makes it easy for kids to go from K-12 to college.
