In Missouri, middle school education continues to show substantial improvement. In 2025, more than 92% of middle school students are now enrolled in schools that are either meeting or exceeding state standards as established by the MSIP 6 accountability system. Currently, there are over 1,450 middle schools in the state, spread throughout 554 school districts that serve K-12 students, currently numbering over 879,000 students in Missouri. With a K-12 attendance rate of over 92%, coupled with a steady increase in grade 3-8 ELA and Math scores, Missouri is making every effort to improve the quality of learning. New and innovative ways of evaluating schools and providing literacy support based on student growth have created a data-driven and improvement-minded top-notch middle school in Missouri.
