It is one of five high schools in the Juneau Borough School District and has about 600 students. The student-to-teacher ratio is 16:1. The student body is diverse, with 53% of students being minorities and 12% being economically disadvantaged. The school had a 23% proficiency in math and a 36% proficiency in reading for the 2025–2026 school year. As of the 2025–2026 school year, Thunder Mountain High School will become the district's centralized middle school hub. This will make sure that all students in Juneau have access to a learning environment that is both resource-rich and unified. The campus is currently making improvements to its facilities so that its high school labs and athletic spaces can be used by younger students. This will give them access to advanced science and technology resources that are usually only available to high school students.
Q1. Is it possible for students at Thunder Mountain High School to take the SAT and ACT?
Ans. Thunder Mountain High School holds regular SAT and ACT sessions to make sure that students have the access they need to get into college.
Q2. What does it mean for school kids to use technology together?
Ans. Modern classrooms and high-tech digital labs help students learn how to use the latest software and tech tools in all of their classes.
Q3. How are the STEM opportunities set up for students in school?
Ans. Students in engineering and robotics classes work on new projects that encourage creative design and analytical thinking.
Q4. Do schools have programs for students to learn outside?
Ans. The school takes advantage of its location near the Alaskan wilderness to teach students about outdoor leadership and ecology in a way that is different from other schools.
Q5. What kinds of groups for students are there?
Ans. A wide variety of clubs, from debate to world languages, gives students the chance to follow their interests and learn how to be leaders.
