It is part of the Anchorage School District and has about 1,500 students, with a student-to-teacher ratio of 19:1. The school is known as one of the best because it is very hard academically. For example, 31% of students take Advanced Placement® classes to get ready for college-level work. The student body is made up of people from different backgrounds, with 59% of students being minorities and 24% being low-income. Recent data for 2025–2026 shows that 19% of students are good at math and 32% are good at reading. The district gives the school about $16,778 per student, which helps it have a good reputation in the community and strong sports programs. Dimond High School is one of the best schools in the area because it is dedicated to academic excellence and can give all of its students a well-rounded education, and it is one of the best high school in Alaska.

Dimond High School will start using a new online lottery system in 2026. This will make it easier for families to sign up their kids for its specialized academic programs. The school's Engineering Academy is still the best because of its Project Lead the Way curriculum, which gives students full mentorship and the chance to compete in FIRST Robotics. The girls' soccer team at Dimond Lynx is getting ready for the 2025–2026 season with a new lineup and a clear plan to keep their Division I state title.
