Northport, Alabama, has a population of about 31,000 and a long history that goes back to when it became a city in 1871. At first, it was a railroad town, but it grew along with Tuscaloosa and became a place that placed a strong emphasis on education.The city's elementary schools are run by Tuscaloosa County Schools. There are several schools that serve about 3,500 students.Faucett-Vestavia Elementary has about 335 students in grades PK–4 and a 14:1 student-teacher ratio. Other schools, like Flatwoods and Northport Elementary, also have great programs in reading, math, science, arts, and extracurricular activities.
