JBER (aka Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson) is a huge military community around Anchorage, Alaska. The populations there are mainly service members or civilians; however, there are many families from various parts of the country due to the military nature of their jobs. The Anchorage School District (ASD) provides elementary education for JBER, with on-base elementary schools such as Aurora, Orion, Ursa Major, & Ursa Minor, all performing excellently regarding academic success, STEM education, student support services, and extracurricular activities, and offering a positive environment for highly mobile military families.
Aurora and Orion Elementary Schools have been awarded the National Blue Ribbon Program as outstanding schools; therefore, JBER has lots of community support, as well as very safe neighborhoods and top-notch educational resources. Thus, it would be an excellent location for any family raising children of school age.
