My Pet Hamster

MoonCampaign by Roberto (9 years)

Roberto, a lively and creative student, presented his project “My Pet Hamster.” Though he doesn’t actually have a hamster, he used the micro:bit to bring an imaginary one to life, inspired by his real dog Alpha and fish Robbie. Using coding blocks, he created random hamster “choices” triggered by button presses. Each choice displayed an icon and played a unique piece of music—including fun references like Pac-Man sounds. He used variables, random number functions, show icons, and melody blocks to give his hamster personality. With slides and code, Roberto showed both technical effort and playful imagination, making his project stand out.

All about Roberto project

“Hi, I’m Roberto,” he began brightly, waving at the screen. “My project today is my pet hamster! I don’t really have a hamster, but I do have a dog named Alpha and a fish named Robbie.” His classmates chuckled, already curious about how his virtual hamster would work.

Once he shared his code, he explained the logic. He had built a small game where pressing button A triggered the hamster to “choose” an action at random. Behind the scenes, a variable was set to pick a number from 1 to 3. Each number matched a sound and an emotion: one might be a cheerful chirp, another a squeaky tune, and another something unexpected.
