My project is called Multi-Tier Alert, a micro:bit alarm that changes sound based on light levels. When the light is between 50 and 100, it makes a small sound. Between 101 and 200, it makes a medium sound, and above 201, it plays a loud sound. As the sun gets brighter, the alarm gets louder, teaching how light sensors and sound can work together. This project shows how coding can create responsive, interactive devices.
I created a micro:bit program called Multi-Tier Alert, which is an alarm system that responds to changes in light levels.
The project uses the micro:bit’s light sensor to detect brightness. When the light level is between 50 and 100, the alarm produces a small, soft sound. If the light level is between 101 and 200, it produces a medium sound, and when the light level is above 201, it plays a loud sound. This makes the alarm dynamic and responsive to its surroundings, growing louder as the sunlight gets stronger.
I designed the project to demonstrate how sensors and programming can work together. The micro:bit continuously monitors the light, and using conditions in the code, it decides which sound to play. Button A is used to start the alarm, and the LED display shows feedback along with the sound, making it interactive and easy to understand.
This project taught me the importance of thresholds, variables, and conditional statements in coding. I also learned how to use hardware features like the light sensor and sound output creatively. By linking light levels to sound, I could make the alarm feel alive and responsive, adding both a practical and fun element to the project.
Overall, Multi-Tier Alert is a simple yet effective way to learn about sensors, coding logic, and interactive design. I enjoyed creating it and hope it inspires others to explore micro:bit projects that respond to the environment around them.
