The middle school system will continue to be successful in the state of Iowa in 2024-2025, due to the number of middle schools available (approximately 695) and the increase in the statewide performance score to 63.3% from last year. According to the School Performance Profiles for Iowa, approximately 88% of districts earn an “acceptable” or higher rating. This shows consistent academic growth, making the schools the best middle schools in Iowa. The improvement in students proficiency in Math and Science is also significant, as the chronic absenteeism rate dropped by 9.58% in the most recent report. Students and parents have access to open enrollment options; for example, they may enroll at IB (International Baccalaureate) program middle schools, such as Goodrell Middle School, and expand into new districts (such as Waukee) that offer IB programs.
