Canton City School District serves approximately 7,800 students across twelve elementary schools, with a 15–16:1 student–teacher ratio and diverse enrollment. In the 2023–24 academic year, reading proficiency stood at 30% and math proficiency at 17%, both significantly below state averages (~60% and ~52%). Although Canton was exempted from the K–3 literacy improvement measure due to an unusually high kindergarten on-track rate, third-grade reading proficiency remained just ~44%—highlighting a reporting anomaly in early literacy data.District strategies include implementation of positive behavior supports (PBIS), data-informed literacy and math interventions, and replicating successful practices from high-performing schools.
