 Planting seeds is a tedious task that needs a lot of human intervention. My Idea is to build an intelligent planter robot that can be programmed to plant seeds with minimum human intervention. This can help plant different kinds of seeds on a large terrain. This bot could help in the reforestation of large wildfire-affected terrains.

 

While helping my grandfather in the vegetable garden, I noticed that planting seeds takes a lot of human effort. Talking to him I understood the hardship farmers and planters face. When I researched more, I understood that planting seeds takes a lot of human involvement, and the same effort needs to be put in every year. Workers need to be trained for different types of plants/seeds. Reforestation in large wildfire-affected terrains is a challenge.

 

My Idea is to build an intelligent planter robot that can be programmed to plant seeds with minimum human intervention.  The planter robot must be able to detect obstacles and act accordingly. It must be customizable for different terrains and planting styles. My idea is to automate planting seeds with the help of coding.

 

For my prototype, I used mbot which can be programmed using scratch. I can control the bot’s movement through servo motors using scratch coding. I can expand the prototype with additional sensors to detect obstacles. In addition to the mbot, I am connecting a seed dispenser that is connected by the gears from the wheel of the mbot. I have added an ultrasonic sensor to detect obstacles like live animals and act.

 

In conclusion, my planter robot will help in large-scale farming, reforestation, and maybe one day help human colonization on Mars.
