Memorial Day

Initially celebrated as Decoration Day, Memorial Day honors those who died in the nation’s conflicts. People initially commemorated this during the American Civil War when they flocked to the graves to pay their respects by leaving flowers. It is observed on the last Monday in May.
Independence Day
July 4, 2024 (Thursday)
America was liberated and became a democratic republic on July 4, 1776. The Continental Congress adopted the final text of the Declaration of Independence, mostly written by Thomas Jefferson, on this Day. Every year since then, it has been observed as Independence Day.
Summer Break
Everyone looks forward to the long and peaceful summer vacations that begin in late May or early June and go until August or early September. Summer break dates vary per district, much as other extended breaks.
Labor Day
September 2, 2024 (Monday)
This is a unique day since it recognizes and honors the laborers who worked hard to build the nation. Labor Day is a federal holiday observed on the first Monday of September.
Columbus Day
October 14, 2024 (Monday)
Christopher Columbus’ landing in the New World on October 12, 1492, is commemorated as Columbus Day. Also known as Indigenous Peoples’ Day, it is celebrated on the second Monday in October.
Veterans’ Day
November 11, 2024 (Monday)
Veterans Day is significant because it celebrates soldiers who served in the United States Armed Forces. This year, Veteran’s Day falls on a Monday. If it falls on a weekend, it is observed either the previous Friday or the following Monday.
The observance originated in 1919 on the first anniversary of the 1918 armistice that ended World War I and was known as Armistice Day.
Thanksgiving Break

It’s that time of year when everyone finishes their projects and prepares to relax with family and friends after slogging throughout the year. People look forward to his extended break, usually set for the week before Thanksgiving and varies based on the school system.
Christmas Break
Christmas vacation lasts two weeks. Most schools close a few days before Christmas and resume in January.
