West Virginia middle school education system has become more robust and organized with an increasing focus on safety, quality, and accountability from 2025 onward. The number of students served by the West Virginia public schools continues to grow, reaching approximately 234,000 students who attend approximately 145 public middle schools. The student-teacher ratios at many of these campuses are also very good, ranging from 10:1 to 19:1, and some of the middle schools in West Virginia rank among the highest performing campuses in the state. According to state data, in English Language Arts (ELA), 86% of school districts made an improvement, and in Mathematics (Math), 83% of school districts made a similar improvement.
