In West Virginia, the accomplishments of its high school graduates astound those who examine the data for the school year of 2026. With a record 92.8% four-year graduation rate, many factors supported this improvement, including participation in standardized testing (SAT) and increased career/pathway programs. The rising proficiency rates in ELA, improvement in AP pass rates, and improvements in CTE overall demonstrate the positive trend within the K-12 education system of West Virginia. West Virginia also has several other initiatives within the K-12 system that are helping improve overall student success — including initiatives to reduce absenteeism, new selective Governor Schools, and an increase in charter school enrollment. The best high schools in West Virginia are increasingly recognizing student success as demonstrated through high completion rates, aligning their graduates to meet labor force needs, and focusing on the recovery of all students to their academic performance.
