There are over two hundred sixty publicly established Middle Schools in South Dakota that serve students throughout South Dakota. South Dakota has one of the lowest student-to-teacher ratios (14:1), allowing for a more personalized learning experience. South Dakota has seen an overall improvement in academic achievement, thanks in large part to new comprehensive Literacy Programs based on the Science of Reading.
