Delaware middle school education system is unique among the states, as it allows parents to choose from a variety of public schools across the state. Home to several of the best middle schools in Delaware, the state features highest-performing charter and magnet schools in the country, such as Newark Charter and Conrad Schools of Science, which have been recognized for their academic successes and their ability to maintain small student-teacher ratios (as low as 14:1). There are currently more than 142,000 students enrolled in Delaware publicly funded school systems, with over 14,700 of those students attending charter schools. The state has invested $8 million for the 2021-2022 school year in literacy programs to continue to support high-quality middle school education.
