Virginia’s high school system has a reputation for high educational quality, with the state consistently ranking among the best in the country for academic achievement and student safety. The 335 public high schools throughout the 130 school districts have an 89.5% on-time graduation rate, and nearly every school is fully accredited, according to the reports of the state. Recent improvements in chronic absenteeism and an overall increase in the number of schools meeting the performance benchmarks established by the new accountability system of the state are also noteworthy developments.
