The top high schools in North Dakota reflect measurable readiness and student-centered reform in 2026. The state has over 256 public secondary high schools, which have a student-teacher ratio of 12:1. In addition, the state consistently outperforms national averages for all measures of learning conditions. The outcomes for completing secondary education in North Dakota are also strong - as of this year, 3 out of every 40 students graduate within 4 years, and 62 out of every 66 total students complete their degree. These two indicators of educational success reflect that there are many different pathways to achieve an inclusive education. The new "Choice Ready" initiative of the state and assessment system (known as the ND A+ system) will create additional accountability for students to be "college and career ready". These systems provide clarity, consistency, and direction toward long-term success for students who attend the best secondary schools in North Dakota.
