Montana has a unique high school system whose results are particularly impressive for overall graduation rates and changing levels of academic responsibility. Although Montana has only 171 high schools statewide, the state has a predicted graduation rate of 94.6% (one of the highest in the country). The “MAST” test for assessment and the ACT in grade 11 continue to provide a key measure of normative readiness for college. In addition to providing consistent nationwide ratings and providing transparent outcome data to support accountability, the top high schools in Montana are highlighted for achievements related to completion rate, task-oriented rigor, and state-level accountability for the success of the students.
