West Jordan, Utah, is a growing suburban city in Salt Lake County with a population of about 116,000. The Jordan School District runs many elementary schools in the area. The city has more than 30 public elementary schools and a few private ones. The district still puts a lot of focus on academics, social-emotional learning, and diversity, even though the average scores in math and reading are below the state average (30% and 36%, respectively). About 42% of students identify as minorities. A few public schools in West Jordan, like Westland Elementary, consistently do better than other schools and get high marks. West Jordan is a wonderful place for families looking for a supportive, well-rounded elementary education because parents are very involved, there are lots of community resources, and there are programs like dual-language and gifted-and-talented.
