McAllen is a medium-sized, vibrant city with approximately 140,000 inhabitants, a rich cultural mix of Hispanic ancestry, and a rapidly expanding economy, also known for its beautiful, warm climate. With four school districts - McAllen Independent School District (ISD), Sharyland ISD, Edinburg Consolidated ISD (ECISD), and affiliate charter schools, all of these school districts combined include at least 24 (twenty-four) elementary schools within their boundaries.
At the elementary level, McAllen has put a high priority on providing students instructional programs in two languages, creating an inclusive environment that teaches and celebrates all cultures, and accomplishing student success. Gifted and talented programming, enrichment programs associated with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and literacy development are major components of instructional programming for McAllen schools.
