A large number of families from very diverse backgrounds focus on deciding where to live in Grand Prairie, Texas around access to a quality, publicly funded education. This city has a population of approximately 195,000 people and is located between two of the largest cities in Texas; Dallas and Fort Worth. The Grand Prairie Independent School District (called GPISD) has around 35-40 schools serving about 26,000 – 27,000 students with many elementary schools dedicated to creating a strong academic program, providing students with access to bilingual programs, producing opportunities for students to participate in the arts as well as STEM fields through extracurricular programs. As a result of these types of programs and other criteria, some GPISD schools have a Texas Education Agency letter grade of "A".
