Lorain Bilingual Preparatory Academy

Lorain Bilingual Preparatory Academy is a public charter school that serves students in preK-8th grades. Its enrollment is around 320 students, and it employs 18 full-time teachers, giving it a student-teacher ratio of nearly 17:1. Students at the academy who are in grades 3-8 take state assessments, and according to the results available, the school was at approximately 36% in math and 44% in reading proficiency, both of which were below state averages of 52% math and 60% reading. The academy prides itself on maintaining a bilingual school, but in many ways, it is a dual-language school for native English and Spanish speakers. It has a demographic of approximately 58% Hispanic, 24% Black, 14% White, and 4% multiracial, with an almost 88% free or reduced-price lunch population. As the only bilingual school in the Lorain area, the academy provides one hour of Spanish instruction daily to all students from kindergarten through 8th grade. This helps students connect with Hispanic roots and culture.
