Maryland has one of the strongest education systems and many of the best elementary schools in Maryland. The 1,420 public schools and 909,000+ students support a positive 14:1 student-teacher ratio and goal of small group instruction. The state spends $15,489 per pupil to support an 87% graduation rate. Recent MCAP results show that 50.8% of students are proficient in English and we are seeing growth in math. These gains are part of ambitious reforms under the Blueprint for MarylandGÇÖs Future bolstered by one of the highest percentages of graduate-level degrees in the country.
