Fortuna is a quiet spot of about 12,500 people out in Humboldt County's redwood country, right by the Eel River. Nicknamed "The Friendly City," life here mostly revolves around local history, getting outside, and town festivals. Younger kids go to public schools in the Fortuna Union Elementary School District, attending Ambrosini Elementary or Toddy Thomas Elementary.
The schools put significant effort into basic reading skills, keeping class sizes small, and getting kids outdoors.
