The public high schools in Hawaii are managed through a single statewide system. Because of this centralized system, Hawaii has a high number of graduating seniors every year, with an 86% on-time graduation rate. More students than ever are also taking Career & Technical Education classes while in high school. In addition to the strong public school system, private schools such as Punahou and ʻIolani provide another option for students in Hawaii. Strong per-student funding provides both stability and predictability regarding the long-term success of these schools. Although the best high schools in Hawaii have made significant strides in the areas of graduation/retention, cultural diversity/integration, and offering more career-oriented pathways for students, there are still areas of improvement in ACT scores and innovation. Hawaii also has the best middle schools.
