Being Updated
West Avenue Elementary is entering a new phase of growth with its new leadership, which is focused on getting families and the community more involved. The school recently held a successful "Back-to-School" block party where students could get free school supplies and families could learn about local health resources. The campus is also the main location for the district's summer literacy programs, which make sure that students have free books all year long.
Q1. Are there any special arts programs after school at West Avenue El?
Ans. Students can join an after-school art club where they can try out different types of art, like painting, clay, and digital design.
Q2. What are the rules for visitors at the West Avenue El playground?
Ans. For the safety of students, the playground is only open to students and staff during school hours.
Q3. Is there a school-wide literacy program at West Avenue El?
Ans. The "West Avenue Reads" program encourages students to read on their own every day, and those who reach their goals get different prizes.
Q4. How does West Avenue El help students who have social and emotional needs?
Ans. The counselor leads small group and one-on-one sessions that focus on mindfulness, empathy, and resolving conflicts in a positive way.
Q5. Do students at West Avenue El have a limit on how many books they can check out from the library?
Ans. Students can check out up to two books a week for fun reading and research for school.
