South Waco Elementary is located at 2104 Gurley Lane in the South Waco neighborhood. This school serves 468 students in grades PK through 5 with a student–teacher ratio of 14:1. Assessment data shows a math proficiency of 11% and a reading proficiency of 22%. There are 48% female and 52% male students in the school. The campus has a very academic and structured atmosphere for all students. Teachers stress that everyone should be responsible for every student and that everyone should be making steady progress. The way the school is set up helps keep things safe and in order for kids all day. Students participate in dual-language immersion programs that help them become fluent in two languages and learn about other cultures. The curriculum includes phonics lessons and workshops to help students improve their speaking and writing skills so they can communicate better. Teachers add global studies to the core subjects so that students can learn more about people from other countries. Students who take digital literacy classes get a head start on learning how to use important online tools and platforms. Homes in this area cost between $145,000 and $275,000. South Waco Elementary just opened its huge new building, which is 91,600 square feet and has state-of-the-art classroom technology and beautiful spaces for working together. The Future Educators Academy is now permanently located on campus, where students who want to become teachers can learn in a cutting-edge setting. This $26.3 million renovation project has made the school bigger, allowing it to hold 750 students and become a new center for the community.
Q1. Does South Waco El have a program for kids to stay after school?
Ans. The campus works with nearby providers to offer supervised after-school care that includes help with homework and fun activities.
Q2. What is South Waco El's policy on personal electronic devices?
Ans. To keep the school day focused, personal devices must stay off and in backpacks.
Q3. Is there a nurse at South Waco El who works full-time?
Ans. There is a full-time registered nurse on staff to handle student health plans, first aid, and giving out medications.
Q4. How does South Waco El help students move from elementary school to middle school?
Ans. "Transition Days" are when fifth graders go to their future middle school and meet the people in charge of the campus.
Q5. Is it okay for parents to eat lunch with their kids at South Waco El?
Ans. On certain days, parents are welcome to eat lunch with their child after signing in at the main office.
