J.H. Hines Elementary is located at 301 Garrison Street in the East Waco neighborhood. This campus serves 385 students in grades PK through 5 with a student–teacher ratio of 16:1. Based on recent assessments, the math proficiency rate is 12% and the reading proficiency rate is 17%. The school has 49% female and 51% male students. Teachers tell their students that they are in charge of everyone else and that everyone should be getting better. The way the campus is set up keeps things safe and in order during the day. Students go to special literacy blocks where they do hands-on workshops to help them read faster and understand what they read. There are science labs and early engineering classes in the curriculum where students can do things that make them think critically. To help students get ready for a world full of technology, teachers teach digital citizenship in their main subjects. Kids of all ages learn how to get along and make good choices in PE class. Homes in this area cost between $130,000 and $245,000. A lot of parents say that the school's academic goals are clear and that the staff is helpful. This Texas school wants to be one ofthe best elementary school.

Daphanie Latchison has recently become the new principal of J H Hines Elementary. She will bring new leadership and a focus on turning around academics for the 2026 school year. The district's new "Future Chefs" program, which teaches kids how to cook and encourages healthy living, is a big help to the school. The campus also recently celebrated the end of some upgrades to its buildings that were meant to make the learning environment more modern and welcoming.
