Being Updated
Westlawn Elementary held its Fall Family Night in October 2025, a community event that principal Dr. Tabitha Dudley highlighted as one of the school's signature engagement moments of the year. The campus also appeared in TISD's promotional newsletter for its family events programming. TISD's April 2026 board meeting showcased student achievements throughout the district, with Westlawn included. The school's participation in the Winter Wear Drive, alongside other TISD campuses, during late 2025 demonstrated its commitment to community support, reaching far beyond the walls of the school.
Q1. Who is the current principal of Westlawn Elementary?
Ans. Dr. Tabitha Dudley is the principal of Westlawn Elementary. She has been visible in TISD's campus leadership recognition programs and was featured in the district's Teacher of the Year ceremony alongside the Westlawn campus's honoree. Families can reach her office through the main Westlawn line or via the school's TISD campus page.
Q2. Does Westlawn Elementary have a GATE program?
Ans. Westlawn Elementary does run a Gifted and Talented program through Texarkana ISD. Families should speak with their child's classroom teacher to start the referral conversation. The fall is the right time to do this — the TISD GT evaluation cycle typically opens early in the school year, and getting ahead of it makes a real difference.
Q3. What community events does Westlawn Elementary host?
Ans. Westlawn Elementary holds a Fall Family Night each October, which gives families a chance to see the campus and meet teachers in a community setting. The school participates in TISD's district-wide family engagement programming throughout the year. Upcoming events are posted on the school's TISD page and through ParentSquare.
Q4. How does Westlawn Elementary support students academically?
Ans. Westlawn Elementary's 11:1 student-teacher ratio — one of the lowest at any TISD campus — means students get more direct teacher contact than they would at a larger school. The school's Title I Schoolwide status also means additional federal funding is channeled into academic intervention programs running throughout the year for students who need extra support.
Q5. What school do Westlawn Elementary students continue to attend after fifth grade?
Ans. Students completing fifth grade at Westlawn Elementary typically move to Texas Middle School and then Texas High School, both within Texarkana ISD. TISD's high school offers more than 450 academic college semester hours through its dual-credit program, one of the broadest in Bowie County, creating a meaningful academic pathway for students who start at campuses like Westlawn.
