Being Updated
Waggoner Creek Elementary's first-grade teacher Candace Davis was recognized at TISD's most recent Teacher of the Year ceremony — one of only eight classroom teachers across the entire district honored that cycle. The school's TISD Waggoner Creek Preschool program, which runs on campus separately from the main K-5 enrollment, gives the building a multi-program presence that benefits families with children at different early learning stages. TISD's Career Technical Education Innovation Center, opened in March 2026, creates a district-wide pipeline that Waggoner Creek students will eventually access as they move into secondary education.
Q1. What makes Waggoner Creek Elementary stand out among TISD campuses?
Ans. Waggoner Creek Elementary's reading proficiency of 67% is one of the higher figures among TISD's neighborhood elementary schools, and its 39% economically disadvantaged rate is notably lower than most campuses in the district. That demographic mix — along with 24 experienced teachers on staff — creates a learning environment that tends to produce above-average academic outcomes for a TISD community campus.
Q2. Does Waggoner Creek Elementary offer a GATE program?
Ans. Waggoner Creek Elementary does offer a Gifted and Talented program through Texarkana ISD. The referral cycle opens each fall through the classroom teacher. Families who think their child may qualify should start that conversation early in the school year rather than waiting for the window to officially open.
Q3. What after-school programs does Waggoner Creek Elementary offer?
Ans. Waggoner Creek Elementary participates in TISD's district-wide after-school and extended learning programs. TISD runs a Waggoner Creek Preschool on campus as a separate early childhood offering, which gives families with younger children an option within the same building. For current program details, the best starting point is the campus office.
Q4. What community events does Waggoner Creek Elementary participate in?
Ans. Waggoner Creek Elementary takes part in TISD's district-wide events, including the annual STEM programming and family engagement calendar. The school's official TISD campus page at waggonercreek.txkisd.net posts event updates throughout the year. Teachers at the school have also been active through DonorsChoose, bringing classroom resources from community donors to the campus.
Q5. What middle school do Waggoner Creek Elementary students attend?
Ans. Waggoner Creek Elementary students generally move on to Texas Middle School, and subsequently, Texas High School, all part of the Texarkana Independent School District. Texas Middle School consistently performs well, and TISD's high school provides 33 Advanced Placement courses along with a robust dual-credit program. This offers a solid academic path for those transitioning from Waggoner Creek Elementary.
