The Vermicomposting Project at Peggy Carnahan Elementary has earned the school recognition for its leadership in sustainability. The project has kept more than 18,000 pounds of food waste out of landfills in the last two years. Students and staff are actively involved in the composting process, which teaches them about being responsible for the environment and helps the school cut down on waste. Parents and teachers have praised the hands-on learning experience and how it has helped the school community.
