Veterans Memorial Elementary was among the Roma ISD campuses that earned the Children at Risk Gold Ribbon Award, which recognizes schools where the majority of students come from low-income households and that still achieve strong academic results. The school has been part of Roma ISD's district-wide push for academic improvement, participating in tutoring programs and extended learning initiatives designed to raise reading proficiency across all grade levels. Staff development and community programming continue to run through the school year.
