The naming of Hickey El was done out of respect for the memory of Loreta Hickey, who was an educator throughout her life and whose name had been commemorated by this institution. This is a reflection of the school's dedication to the overall education of its students, both in academics and in other aspects.
Q1. What is the sensory room, and what is its function at Hickey Elementary? Who can go into the room?
Ans. The sensory room at Hickey Elementary is a specially equipped room that helps students regulate themselves emotionally. It can be used by all Hickey students with supervision by the faculty.
Q2. Describe how Hickey Elementary works to educate students with special needs in the general education classroom.
Ans. Hickey follows an inclusion approach where both a general and special education teacher assist the students along with a para-professional.
Q3. Explain what Hickey Elementary's 'Rise and Shine' is about.
Ans. 'Rise and Shine' at Hickey Elementary refers to an everyday assembly at Hickey that is aired on the school's news network to celebrate birthdays and announce important things.
Q4. Can students at Hickey Elementary take up student leader positions at the school? If yes, how?
Ans. Yes. Fifth-grade students may apply to join the Hickey Helpers, where they can help with morning announcements and perform school-related tasks.
Q5. What should parents do if their child is sick at school?
Ans. Parents need to notify the school through the front office's attendance line before 9:00 am.
